Optical Outreach Trip to Guyana
Our 6-day optical outreach trip to Guyana has concluded and we are pleased to announce that it was a monumental success. Members of the George Subraj Family Foundation made three stops:1) Wales, West Bank Demerara2) Bartica, Essequibo3) No. 70 Village, BerbiceWhen it was all said and done, we saw over 1200 people. In total, we handed out 2300 pairs of eyeglasses. All screenings and eyeglasses were provided at zero cost to residents. Our late founder, Mr George Subraj, began a beautiful partnership and worked closely with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. We are proud to continue in his tradition, keeping his unmatched legacy of philanthropy alive. Last December, we worked with cornea specialists, Dr. Joseph Pasternak of Washington, and the Lions Eye Bank to procure emergency corneal transplant tissues for a one-eyed patient who was about to lose his only seeing eye. He had developed an infection of the cornea. We acted immediately to purchase and ship the desperately needed corneal tissue to Guyana to save the patients only functioning eye. The patient is now about to use his eye to move around and perform his daily tasks without assistance. A further four corneal transplants were done last February by GPHC surgeons. In total, our partnership with the GPHC has resulted in a total of 88 corneal transplants being successfully completed. …..#optometry #eyewearfashion #eyewear #glasses #eyedoctor #guyana #eyehealth #ophthalmology #design #vision #love #sunnies #optician #eyeglasses #optical #shades #eye #eyecare #photography #sunglasses #frames #health #ophthalmologist #fashion #optometrist #style #glaucoma #eyes
